Our History
Highland began as a family-owned business, founded by Paul Yoder of Mio, Michigan in 2008. He and a few of his family members had a vision and saw the need in northern Michigan for quality building materials and excellent service.
When Paul Yoder opened Highland Building Center in 2009, he could never have imagined where it would be today. From its humble beginnings with a handful of family members, Highland has grown over the years to become the dominant supplier of building materials of all kinds in the upper Michigan peninsula. Highland is the go-to source for specialty supplies for the building industry and its reputation for designing and erecting pole barns in Michigan is unmatched.
Highland’s New Owner
Paul realized that he could not take his business any further without the addition of new technology and additional personnel. The search for a successor owner began in 2022 and the process of a change in ownership and the transition to new management has begun.
The typical customer of Highland, whether contractor or consumer, will not experience any significant difference while doing business with Highland’s new management. The introduction of electric power, internet and computerized inventory control will only aid Highland in becoming more efficient. The ability to pay with credit and debit cards will make shopping at Highland even more convenient.
The Song Remains The Same
What will remain is the same friendly, small-town service that Highland has always been known for. Paul will still be involved locally, and favorable terms will continue to be offered to loyal customers.
